Text neck

Text neck

Text neck - also known as forward head posture - is a growing problem in an age where we spend more and more time in front of computers, mobile phones and tablets. This position causes misalignment in the neck, thoracic spine and shoulders, which in the long run affects both muscles, ligaments, and skeletal structure.

Having the head too far forward in relation to the rest of the body leads to increased stress on the spine, often resulting in neck pain, shoulder tension, and postural muscle fatigue.

Common symptoms of vulture neck:

  • Pain and stiffness in the neck and thoracic spine
  • Rounded posture and head tilted forwards
  • Tired shoulders and muscles in the thoracic spine
  • Impaired mobility and posture
  • Pressure across the neck, shoulders and sometimes even headaches
  • Feeling of the body ‘collapsing’ during the working day

What causes neck pain?

  • Prolonged sedentary work, especially in front of screens
  • Poor working posture and ergonomics
  • The habit of looking down at your mobile phone or tablet
  • Weak postural muscles in the chest and shoulders
  • Unbalanced load between the front and back of the body
